On May 12,13 and 14 Jaunita and I were on the Mendocino Coast so she could
take a watercolor class at the Art Center. We stayed in the VW Westfalia at
Cleone Campground for two nights and returned home Sunday evening. While
Jaunita was in class I hiked the trails of two State Parks, Van Damme, and
Russian Gulch, taking photos. It seemed to be the peak weekend for
wildflowers and especially the wild rhododendrons. I also drove to the end
of Road 409 and to one of our favorite places; Road 5000 near Mendocino
where I hiked to the headlands and under the Russian Gulch bridge.
I haven't identified all the flowers. Some of the photos were taken with
a new, higher resolution camera, (a Sony FD-90) including the photo attached
here. I discovered that at the higher resolution, I only get 6 photos to a
floppy disc. So for many I resorted to the lower resolution setting, which
gives about 30 photos to the disc. This camera also is capable of a 5 second
shot in MPEG, which is video and sound! I'll include one of those in this
little travelogue and you can hear the waves washing on the sand!
