| MINUTEMAN III MISSILE SILO
This shot may not look very impressive, but that area behind
the chain link fence contains an underground missile silo containing a Minuteman
III intercontinental ballistic missile carrying multiple nuclear warheads.
This is NOT some relic of the cold war, it's the real thing, and it's still
live.
The treaties in existance today have limited the number and power
of the warheads these missles can carry, but there are still hundreds of
them in existance in Montana alone. Malmstrom airforce base in Great Falls
is the largest missile control complex in the United States.
The slender white rod inside the fence contains a motion detector.
You could not even parachute into the fenced area undetected, and the military
police WILL be here in minutes if the detector is triggered. Then you have
to deal with the automatic weapons, handcuffs, etc. That's why we are back
a ways from it. This is about close enough! |
